Victory With Jesus Through Temperance And Self Denial

Notice the two pictures above of a cross and a corn of wheat. The two pictures will give us the answer to a parable. John 12:24 says Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. The bread of life who is the Lord Jesus is the corn of wheat that died on the cross of Calvary to save sinners and give them eternal life.

Jesus said at John 6:48 I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Jesus died for us because He loved us, and the death of Jesus on the cross of Calvary brings forth much fruit and many sinners to salvation. If Jesus did not die on the cross, Jesus would have abided alone and no one could be saved. Get saved, repent, decide to stop sinning, confess that Jesus is God, and believe the gospel that Jesus died on the cross for you, was buried, and rose again.

The Lord Jesus obeyed the Father and willingly offered His body on the cross so sinners could get saved. Jesus said at John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. Notice that the Father gave Jesus a commandment to lay down his life and die on the cross for sinners. Jesus fully obeyed this commandment and said It is finished and destroyed the devil and gave all saved saints total victory and eternal life because He died on the cross of Calvary.

Jesus also rejoiced to go to the cross of Calvary and save sinners. Hebrews 12:2 says Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Our eternal high priest Jesus willingly sacrificed His own body instead of a bull or goat to take away the sins of the people. Hebrews 10:5 says Wherefore when He cometh into the world, He saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me.

When Abraham was going to sacrifice his son Isaac, God spared Isaac and provided a ram in the bush for Abraham to sacrifice. But when the Lord Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, there was no ram in the bush. Jesus loved us so much and sacrificed His life so sinners could have eternal life in heaven.

Everyone is running a race and our goal is to get saved and daily deny our flesh while we study the KJV Word of God and remember Jesus Christ crucified. The picture above reminds me of the parable about the runner in the bible. 1 Corinthians 9:24 says Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now, they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Castaway means a rejected reprobate who has no hope in this life. Brother Bob says do not be a castaway but receive eternal life from Jesus by obeying Luke 9:23. And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away.

Galatians 6:7 says Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption (destruction); but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. It's a true saying What goes around comes around. If you are kind and friendly to everyone (even your enemies), people will be kind and friendly to you. If you are mean, selfish, and complain, people will be mean, selfish, and complain about you. I went out to find a friend and could not find one anywhere. I went out to be a friend and friends were everywhere.

Proverbs 18:24 says A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother (Jesus). Deny yourself daily, be kind and friendly to everyone (even rude unloveable people when we are tired) so we can all live long blessed peaceful lives. Every time you walk in the front door of Walmart or any grocery store, train and tell your flesh to love all people. Remember Brother Bob's motto for success. Avoid angry people, forgive for ever, and always love your enemies.

Saved saints receive victory with Jesus through temperance and self denial. The word temperance is defined as self control or denial of self. Notice also that temperance is defined as abstinence from alcoholic drink. Have temperance and stop drinking beer, wine, and liquor, daily denying your flesh because Romans 7:18 says For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

The following scriptures warn us to avoid getting drunk from wine, beer, or any liquor. Proverbs 20:1 says Wine is a mocker; strong drink is raging; and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. In other words avoid getting drunk with wine or strong drink because it causes Jesus who is wisdom (noted at 1 Corinthians 1:30) to leave you. Proverbs 23:29 says Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red (fermented), when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

When you walk through the grocery store don't look at the wine and beer bottles. Don't attend a sporting event where they pass beer down the aisle to spectators. Habakkuk 2:15 says Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness. 2 Corinthians 6:17 says Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Note that 1 Timothy 5:23 says Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. According to this scripture, it's alright to drink just a little wine to heal sickness. But don't sin and drink excess (much) wine to get drunk when you are not sick. Ephesians 5:18 says And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess (called profligacy with reckless behavior); but be filled with the Spirit. Proverbs 23:21 warns us For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

Notice the two pictures above of the day and the night. We should praise the Lord Jesus morning, noon, evening, and at all times. Psalm 55:17 says Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and He shall hear my voice. Any time we praise Jesus is a good time. Psalm 34:1 says I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 119:97 says O how I love thy law. It is my meditation all the day. Psalm 63:5 says My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Psalm 119:62 says At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of they righteous judgments.

It's a blessing to loudly praise the Lord Jesus. Whenever I hear anyone shouting loud praise to Jesus, I tell them to shout louder, rejoice, and leap for joy. Psalm 5:11 says to ever shout for joy about the Lord Jesus. But let all those that put their trust in thee (Jesus) rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield. Psalm 98:4 says Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Let's all do a good thing today and give thanks to the Lord Jesus. Psalm 92:1 says It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.

Most people in church won't even lift up their hands to praise Jesus or say a faint Amen. Go a little farther with Jesus and don't worry about what people say when you praise Jesus. Keep your eyes on Jesus and off the people. They're going to talk about you anyway. Give them something good to talk about and leap for joy while you give them a Forrest Gump and run the aisles in every church for our Lord Jesus. If anyone says you talk too much about Jesus, respond Correction, I need to talk more about Jesus and thanks for the compliment. Get in the glory at least one time in your life and get the I can't help its. Tell everyone I can't help it, I got to shout and praise Jesus while I leap for joy. Keep witnessing Jesus everywhere and rejoice evermore.

I pray in Jesus name that this bible study blesses multitudes everywhere with great joy, peace, and strength.
