Edward Kimball
An Unknown Witness That Saved Multitudes For Jesus
In 1856 an unknown humble Sunday school teacher named Edward Kimball was determined to win a sinner named DL Moody to Jesus. A shoe store employer for the Holton Shoe Store in Boston, Massachusetts told DL Moody that he had to go to Sunday school before he could work at his store. DL Moody agreed to attend church and fell asleep every Sunday while Edward Kimball preached a blessed sermon. But Edward Kimball was determined to witness and win DL Moody to Jesus.
Edward Kimball would visit DL Moody many times at a shoe store where the teenage Moody worked. One day when Mr. Kimball entered the shoe store, he put his hand on DL Moody's shoulder while placing his foot upon a shoebox and humbly asked him to get saved, repent, decide to stop sinning, confess that Jesus is God, and believe the gospel that Jesus died on the cross for him, was buried, and rose again. After nothing changed for Mr. Moody, Mr. Kimball left the shoe store thinking that nothing would happen. However on that day DL Moody got saved and became a new person who eventually became one of the greatest evangelists during the 1800s.
Like Edward Kimball, keep witnessing Jesus to people everywhere on this earth. Paul said at 1 Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Our labor for Jesus is not in vain. The one person that gets saved by our witness could save millions for Jesus. Because Edward Kimball kept witnessing Jesus to DL Moody, Mr. Moody got saved and won millions to the Lord Jesus. In other words if it wasn't for Edward Kimball (who isn't even listed in Wikipedia) millions of lost souls would now be in hell. But instead millions of sinners got saved and are in heaven right now. All these millions of people are thankful that Edward Kimball offered salvation to DL Moody.
But the story doesn't end about the blessed results from Edward Kimball's witness. On June 17, 1873, DL Moody arrived in Liverpool, England for a series of crusades. The meetings went poorly at first but then blessings began flowing. Moody visited a Baptist chapel pastored by a scholarly man named FB Meyer who at first disdained the American's unfettered preaching. But Meyer was soon transfixed and transformed by Moody's message. DL Moody's preaching led to FB Meyer's salvation.
At Moody's invitation, Meyer toured America. At Northfield Bible Conference, Meyer challenged the crowds saying "If you are not willing to give up everything for Christ, are you willing to be made willing." That remark changed the life of a struggling young minister named J. Wilbur Chapman. Chapman proceeded to become a powerful traveling evangelist in the early 1900s and he recruited a converted baseball player named Billy Sunday. Under Chapman's eye, Sunday became one of the most spectacular evangelists in American history.
Billy Sunday's campaign in Charlotte, North Carolina produced a group of converts who continued praying for another such visitation of the Spirit. In 1934 evangelist Mordecai Ham was invited to conduct a citywide crusade. On October 8, 1934 Ham discouraged wrote a prayer to God on the stationary of his Charlotte hotel. Lord give us a Pentecost here. Pour out thy Spirit tomorrow. His prayer was answered beyond his dreams when a Central High School student named Billy Graham gave his heart to Jesus. And Billy Graham became one of the greatest preachers that ever lived on this earth and won millions to the Lord Jesus.
Now remember millions of souls were saved by the preaching of DL Moody, FB Meyer, J. Wilbur Chapman, Billy Sunday, Mordecai Ham, and Billy Graham because of an unknown humble Sunday school teacher named Ed Kimball who was determined to witness Jesus everywhere to everyone. Edward Kimball didn't even know about the millions of souls that his preaching saved. But Jesus will reward Mr. Kimball greatly in heaven for his faithfulness in telling everyone about the Lord Jesus.
Like Edward Kimball, Brother Bob might not know how many lives were changed and saved by reading preachbrotherbob. But it's not about lifting up Edward Kimball or Brother Bob. All the glory belongs to our Lord Jesus. Edward Kimball and Brother Bob will soon rejoice forever when we see all the lost souls that escaped hell and received eternal peace in heaven with the Lord Jesus because of our continuous witnessing about the Lord Jesus to lost sinners everywhere on this earth.
Like Edward Kimball, never underestimate the influence you can have on the world by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to just one person. I pray in Jesus name that this little story about Edward Kimball will encourage many people to continue to pray and look for opportunities to preach the gospel and witness Jesus everywhere. The one person you reach for Jesus could save untold millions for the Lord Jesus. Jesus said at Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God (Jesus rejoices) over one sinner that repenteth.
Get saved, repent, decide to stop sinning,
Confess that Jesus is God, and believe the gospel,
That Jesus died on the cross for you, was buried, and rose again
The Blessed Ministry Of David Brainerd
Missionary To The American Indians
David Brainerd, who only lived 29 years on this earth from 1718-1747, was one of the greatest soul winners for Jesus that ever lived. David Brainerd dedicated his life to witnessing to lost American Indians from 1737-1747. This would be like going today to a primitive Indian tribe in the remote Amazon jungle of Brazil, South America to tell all the Indians about the Lord Jesus. David Brainerd couldn't speak the language of the American Indians but was determined to witness Jesus to the American Indians. David Branerd's ministry became the foundational inspiration for great missionaries like William Carey, Adoniram Judson, David Livingstone, CT Studd, and Jim Elliot.
David Brainerd witnessed Jesus among three primary regions. His first assignment was among the Mohican Indians of Kaunaumeek, New York from 1743-1744. He lived in a small log hut and slept on a bundle of straw while he focused on basic instruction and translation, though he initially saw little fruit. Only a few Indians received salvation. Then David Brainerd traveled thousands of miles on horseback to witness Jesus to the remote settlements of the Delaware (Lenni Lenape) tribes at Forks of the Delaware, Pennsylvania (near present day Easton) from 1744-1745.
David Brainerd's results at the Forks of the Delaware were initially very discouraging. For a year from 1744-1745, Brainerd reported little fruit from his labors. He struggled with loneliness, the language barrier, and the fact that many Lenape at the Forks were suspicious of white settlers.
The Lenape Indians did not trust white preachers after William Penn's sons stole most of their land under a fraudulent deal called the Walking Purchase of 1737. While some Lenape Indians were moved to tears by Brainerd's preaching, many others dismissed him rudely or grew enraged at those who listened, viewing the missionary effort as an intrusion into their traditional spiritual practices. But the most significant result at the Forks was the conversion of Branerd's interpreter, Moses Tunda Tatamy, and Tatamy's wife. Tatamy, a respected Lenape leader who owned land at the Forks became Branerd's first baptized convert during July 1745.
Discouraged by the slow progress at the Forks, Brainerd traveled south to Crossweeksung, New Jersey, where he experienced a great religious revival from 1745-1746. After years of feeling discouraged and seeing little fruit in other locations, he witnessed a great spiritual awakening among the Delaware (Lenni Lenape) Indians in central New Jersey. When Brainerd arrived at Crossweeksung (near modern day Freehold), he found only a few women and children. However, after the women and children told Branerd's message to nearby settlements, a crowd of 30 gathered to hear him by the third day with an eagerness to hear the gospel.
The Lenape revival began on August 8, 1745 when the power of God seemed to descend like a rushing mighty wind while Brainerd preached Luke 14:16 (the Great Supper) and Luke 19:10 (For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost). The Crossweeksung revival was marked by prayers for mercy from God and repentance. Brainerd noted that rugged warriors who showed no emotion bowed down in reverence to the Lord Jesus and got gloriously saved.
The Crossweeksung revival led to immediate social changes in the Lenape community. Within a year, Brainerd baptized 77 Indians, drunkenness nearly disappeared, idolatry and traditional powwows (dances that honor Indian heritage) were abandoned, marriages were repaired, and debts were honestly repaid.
As the number of Indian converts grew to 130 members, the Lenape community faced opposition from white settlers who coveted their land. To protect the new believers, Brainerd helped them relocate in 1746 to Cranbury, New Jersey, where they established a christian town named Bethel. There, they built a school and church, living as a compact, self governing christian community.
Brainerd wrote in his diary that this success occurred when he had the least hope of seeing a work of grace. He found that the visible fruit of his labors was the only thing that compensated for his sufferings. Romans 8:18 says For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 2 Corinthians 4:17 says For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
The Blessed Ministry Of Moses Tunda Tatamy
David Brainerd's Interpreter To The Lenape Indians
Moses Tunda Tatamy (1690-1760) was a prominent Delaware (Lenni Lenape) leader, landowner, and diplomat who became David Brainerd's first convert and lifelong friend. Tatamy was already a respected guide and translator for colonial officials before he became David Brainerd's interpreter. At first, Tatamy was a hard drinker and disinterested in Brainerd's religious message, though he remained sober while working with colonial officials. After his conversion, Tatamy's role shifted from literal translator to a true helper and blessed interpreter for David Branerd. Brainerd noted that Tatamy was so dedicated to the Lord Jesus that after a church service, Tatamy would continue to preach, pray, and rejoice with the Lenape Indians for hours.
In 1741, Tatamy became the first Native American recognized by the Pennsylvania government to privately own land, owning a 315 acre farm in what is now Tatamy, Pennsylvania (a city named to honor Moses Tunda Tatamy). Tatamy was highly regarded for his honesty and served as an official messenger for the Pennsylvania government, often helping negotiate treaties and explaining indigenous customs to white officials. David Brainerd was a true christian that loved all people, especially the Indians and Tatamy. Let's be like David Brainerd and Tatamy and witness Jesus everywhere to every person irregardless of their race, background, or culture. Jesus said at John 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
Brother Bob has the utmost respect for any missionary like David Brainerd who dedicates his life to living in remote desolate places to reach primitive people and save their souls. We should all support missionaries who are willing to live in jungles and remote places on this earth to preach the gospel of the Lord Jesus to lost sinners who never heard about Jesus. These people are willing to sacrifice and learn primitive languages and live outdoors in huts to win souls to the Lord Jesus.
Let's be like David Brainerd and start weeping and being burdened to save lost sinners all around us. Psalm 126:5 says They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth (burdened and praying daily for lost souls to be saved), bearing precious seed (preaching the Word of God and offering salvation from Jesus), shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him (the souls that got saved by our witnessing). In other words saints will rejoice in heaven when they see the untold millions of souls that were saved by our witnessing for Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 2:19 says For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For ye (the saints saved through our witnessing) are our glory and joy.

Don't despise small things
Remember a little lantern can do what a great sun can never do
It can shine in the night
Some Blessed Quotes
Without God, we should fear to move
But when He bids us go, it is dangerous to tarry
I thank God for protecting me from what I thought I wanted
and blessing me with what I didn't know I needed
A Blessed Poem Proving That God's Word And Truth Will Remain Forever
They burned Truth in the marketplace
And thought their work complete
But next day with a smiling face
They met it on the street
They threw it in a dungeon damp
And thought it was no more
But lo it walked with lighted lamp
Among them as before
They scorned and ostracized it
And ordained it to depart
But still it dwelt in all the land
And challenged every heart
