Who Are The 24 Elders?

Who Are The 24 Elders?

To understand who the 24 Elders are we must see how the book of Revelation describes the 24 Elders and the throne of God. The 24 Elders sit in 24 seats or thrones around the throne of God. The seven lamps of fire are the closest to the throne of God with the two olive trees (Moses and Elijah). Jesus gave us a preview of the throne of God on the Mount of Transfiguration when He appeared transfigured with Moses and Elijah. Next the four beasts (lion, eagle, ox, and man) surround the throne of God forever saying Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. Next the 24 Elders surround the throne of God forever saying Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Finally ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands (innumerable) angels surround the throne of God forever worshipping and praising our Lord Jesus.

Revelation 4:4 describes the 24 Elders. And round about the throne were four and twenty seats (thrones): and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. The 24 Elders rule like kings on thrones with crowns of gold. Revelation 4:9 says And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to Him that sat on the throne (Jesus), who liveth for ever and ever, The four and twenty elders fall down before Him that sat on the throne, and worship Him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Revelation 5:8-10 describes the 24 Elders. And when He (Jesus) had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Note that along with the 24 Elders, all saved saints will rule like kings and priests on thrones in the kingdom of God. Revelation 1:5 says And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, And hath made us kings and priest unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

How The Book Of Revelation Describes The 24 Elders
1) The 24 Elders have harps and sing praises forever to our Lord Jesus
2) The 24 Elders offer the prayers of saints to the Lord Jesus in golden vials
3) The 24 Elders sit like kings on thrones with crowns of gold around the throne of God

Who Are The 24 Elders?
1 Chronicles 25:8-31 Lists The 24 Names Of The 24 Elders

1 Chronicles 25:8-31 lists the 24 Names of the 24 Elders. The 24 Elders represent 288 singers according to 1 Chronicles 25:7: The number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even all that were cunning, was 288.. Every Elder represents 12 of his sons and brethren. It's interesting that 24x12=288.

Note the following reasons why the 24 names listed in 1 Chronicles 25:8-31 are the names of the 24 Elders in heaven. 1) These 24 Elders play harps and sing to the Lord Jesus. This is like the 24 Elders in heaven that play harps and sing to the Lord Jesus. 1 Chronicles 25:6 says All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king's order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

     2) These 24 Elders offer the prayers of their 12 sons and brethren. This is like the 24 Elders in heaven that offer golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of the saints to the Lord Jesus. 3) These 24 elders are saved and will become kings and priests sitting on thrones in heaven with crowns that they offer in praise and worship to Jesus. 4) These 24 Elders all have Hebrew names of praise and worship to our Lord Jesus. 5) These 24 Elders are chosen by grace and are not the 24 priests listed at 1 Chronicles 24:7-18 under the curse of the law.

The 24 Priests Listed At 1 Chronicles 24:7-18 Are Not The 24 Elders In Heaven
These 24 Priests Are Under The Curse Of The Law
Therefore The 24 Singers With Harps Under Grace
Listed At 1 Chronicles 25:9-31 Are The 24 Elders In Heaven

The 24 names of the priests listed at 1 Chronicles 24:7-18 are not the 24 elders in heaven because they represent the curse of the law that no longer exists after salvation with our Lord Jesus. Romans 10:4 says For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. The letter was only a schoolmaster to reveal sin and bring us to Jesus, that we might be justified by faith. Galatians 3:24 says Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

To get saved with Jesus we no longer have to keep the law with works. Salvation with Jesus occurs by faith in the finished work that Jesus did at the cross of Calvary. Ephesians 2:8 says For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Titus 3:5 says Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost. Christians do good works after salvation to shine Jesus to lost sinners and receive rewards at the Bema judgment seat. Ephesians 2:10 says For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Galatians 2:21 says I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Get Saved, Repent, Decide To Stop Sinning,
Confess That Jesus Is God, And Believe The Gospel
That Jesus Died On The Cross For You, Was Buried, And Rose Again
