After a victory keep looking to Jesus and resisting the devil. Don't let your guard down after a victory enjoying sinful worldly pleasures while you ignore the devil. Instead determine today to constantly abide with Jesus at all times especially after any victory. Stay on the mountaintop with Jesus and fight the devil even more after a victory. Strive every day to obey Psalm 34:1 saying I will bless the Lord at all times (after any victory and after any loss); His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Also after a loss where grieving occurs while a person remembers the past good times of a deceased relative, one needs to stop dwelling on the past and live for the present by looking to Jesus and His Word. Philippians 3:13 says Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Remember if you abide by constantly looking every day to Jesus crucified and His Word you will get all your prayers answered according to John 15:7: Jesus said If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Remember the advice of Hebrews 12:2 after a victory that says Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
Don't Be Like Noah Who Stopped Looking To The Lord Jesus After A Victory
After Noah got a great victory by surviving the flood, he stopped looking to the Lord Jesus and got drunk during a sinful celebration. The result was that Ham's son Canaan got cursed when Ham failed to cover Noah's nakedness. Genesis 9:20 says And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard. And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
Genesis 9:23 goes on to say And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father, and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son (Ham) had done unto him. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
Noah had a great victory after the flood when he realized that his family owned the entire world. Noah didn't just own a little house with a front and back yard; Noah owned the entire world. Noah forgot about the Lord Jesus and because of his sinful drunkenness, Canaan got cursed. Remember the time to be very careful while you keep looking to Jesus and resisting the devil is the day following a great victory.
Don't be like Noah who got drunk and naked the day following a great victory. Don't become overconfident after a victory thinking you can conquer anything by yourself without Jesus. 1 Corinthians 10:12 says Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. Remember without Jesus we can do nothing. Therefore after any victory keep looking to Jesus and His Word. Jesus said at John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches; He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing: If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
Don't Be Like Elijah Who Stopped Looking To The Lord Jesus After A Victory
After Elijah had a great victory by defeating 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of the groves (1 Kings 18:19), he stopped looking to Jesus and resisting the devil and ran from just 1 woman (the witch Jezebel), wanting to die under a juniper tree. 1 Kings 19:1 says And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time. And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there. But himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
Remember the time to be very careful and keep resisting the devil is the day following a great victory. Note that the day following Elijah's great victory over the prophets of Baal and the groves, Elijah went a days journey into the wilderness, wanting to die while fleeing from the witch Jezebel. After a great victory, don't be like Elijah; Instead always keep resisting and fighting the devil. James 4:7 says Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Remember Paul's advice at 2 Timothy 2:3: Thou therefore endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please Him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
Don't Be Like Amaziah Who Stopped Looking To The Lord Jesus After A Victory
After Amaziah had a great victory over the Edomites and the children of Seir, Amaziah stopped looking to the Lord Jesus and started worshipping the gods of the children of Seir. At first Amaziah obeyed a man of God's request to send home 100000 mighty men of valour out of Israel and just use soldiers from Judah and Benjamin to fight the Edomites. God did not want Amaziah to use the soldiers from Israel that worshipped idols at Dan and Bethel. These soldiers of Israel were angry that they were not allowed to fight the Edomites.
Because Amaziah obeyed God and did not rely on the sinful soldiers from Israel, God gave Amaziah a great victory over the Edomites. But the day following Amaziah's great victory, Amaziah stopped looking to Jesus and resisting the devil; Amaziah chose to worship the gods of the children of Seir instead of the Lord Jesus. This allowed the angry soldiers of Israel to conquer the cities of Judah and create a loss for Amaziah. Don't be like Amaziah after a great victory. Keep fighting the good fight of faith where you always resist the devil. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
2 Chronicles 25:11 speaks about Amaziah: And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand. 2 Chronicles 25:13 says But the soldiers of the army (of Israel) which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil. Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them. Wherefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand.
Don't Be Like David Who Stopped Looking To The Lord Jesus After A Victory
After David had a great victory and became King, David stayed home, rested, and committed the sin of adultery with Bathsheba instead of going forth to battle. The day following David's victory, David stopped resisting the devil and sinned. After Bathsheba became pregnant, David had Bathsheba's husband Uriah murdered. Even though David repented, David suffered fourfold vengeance and lost four sons (Bathsheba's first baby, Amnon, Absalom, and Adonijah). Don't be like David after a victory; Obey 1 Timothy 6:12: Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
The story about David's sin after a great victory is at 2 Samuel 11:1: And it came to pass after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent to Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel, and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and beseiged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem (David sinned instead of fighting the battle against the devil). And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. David committed adultery, got Bathsheba pregnant, and had Bathsheba's husband Uriah murdered.
Don't be like David and get tired of fighting the battle against the devil. Keep fighting the good fight of faith. Galatians 6:9 says And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Note that the way to reap your blessings and faint not is to keep praying. Jesus said at Luke 18:1 that men ought always to pray, and not to faint. If you keep praying for others, you won't faint and God will heal you. James 5:16 says Pray one for another, that ye may be healed. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says Pray without ceasing.
Don't Be Like Moses Who Stopped Looking To The Lord Jesus After A Victory
After Moses had a great victory where he led the children of Israel out of Egypt and across the Red Sea, Moses sinned by pleasing the people instead of pleasing God. First God told Moses to smite the Rock (that is Jesus according to 1 Corinthians 10:4) to produce water for the people; Then God told Moses a second time to speak to the Rock (not smite the Rock). Moses disobeyed God and smote the Rock twice to produce water for the people. Jesus the Rock only had to be smitten once (not twice) on the cross of Calvary for our sins. Hebrews 10:12 says But this man (Jesus), after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God. From henceforth expecting till His enemies be made His footstool. For by one offering He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
Psalm 106:32 speaks about Moses' sin after his great victory. Because Moses sinned by smiting the Rock twice, Moses was not allowed to enter into the promised land. The scripture says They angered him (Moses) at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes. because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.
Don't Be Like Moses And A Man Pleaser Instead Of A God Pleaser
Keep Your Eyes On Jesus And Off The People
Don't Be Like Herod Who Stopped Looking To The Lord Jesus After A Victory
After Herod exalted his proud arrogant self to victory proclaiming himself to be a god, an angel of the Lord smote Herod. Acts 12:21 says And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory; and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
Don't be proud like Herod and be defeated by the devil. Proverbs 16:18 says Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 29:23 says A man's pride shall bring him low, but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. Instead stay humble and always glorify Jesus and not yourself. James 4:6 says But He (Jesus) giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. James 4:10 says Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up.
Don't be like proud Herod seeking the temporary praise of men. Instead be like John the Baptist and say John 3:30 He (Jesus) must increase, but I must decrease. If people start lifting you up, tell them don't lift me up, Lift up Jesus. Beware of flattery. Proverbs 29:5 tells us A man that flattereth his neighbor spreadeth a net for his feet. An eternal reward for serving Jesus is better than the temporary pleasure from a pat on the back from a flatterer.
If everyone is bragging about a person instead of Jesus, something is wrong. Luke 6:26 says Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you. for so did their fathers to the false prophets. But Luke 6:22 says Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. 1 Peter 4:14 says If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; For the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you; on their part He is evil spoken of, but on your part He is glorified.
Don't Be Proud After A Victory Thinking You Can Defeat The Devil By Yourself
After a victory don't ever think that you can defeat the devil by yourself. We need our brothers and sisters in the Lord to help us fight the devil. Romans 14:7 says For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. Keep attending church and prayer meetings to defeat the devil. Christians are designed for fellowship where two people have ten times more power against the devil than one person. Deuteronomy 32:30 says How should one chase 1000, and two put 10000 to flight, except their rock (the devil) had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up; For their rock (the devil) is not as our Rock (Jesus); even our enemies themselves being judges.
One ant can push a crumb; But ten ants can push the crumb better. Don't be an island all by yourself. Keep attending church and fellowshipping to get the victory over the devil. Ecclesiastes 4:9 says Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again if two lie together, then they have heat; but how can one be warm alone. And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him, and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
