Today let's learn how to stay clean after we get saved. If we look at the pictures above we see that when anyone gets saved by faith without works, God stops imputing or remembering their sins by cleansing their sins with the blood of Jesus. Get saved today. Get saved, repent, decide to stop sinning, confess that Jesus is God, and believe the gospel that Jesus died on the cross for you, was buried, and rose again.
After salvation, 1 John 1:7 says But if we walk in the light (Jesus), as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. In other words when anyone gets saved, God no longer imputes or keeps a record or account of our sins in heaven. Romans 4:8 says Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. And 2 Corinthians 5:19 says To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
How comforting to know that after salvation by faith in Jesus alone with no works, the blood of Jesus washes away all our sins past, present, and future. Rejoice and say Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And say Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering He (the Lord Jesus) hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
In other words Jesus doesn't have to be crucified over and over again to sanctify and cleanse us all from sin. This is why Jesus said at the cross It is finished. Jesus made the payment of His blood for our redemption and salvation from our sins once at the cross of Calvary. It requires no work from us. Just believe what Jesus has already done at the cross of Calvary to be saved and don't add your own works. It's enough without our works what Jesus did at the cross to obtain salvation. Ephesians 2:8 says For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
But christians can sin again after salvation, and this is why christians need to daily confess their sins and stay clean. The next verse at 1 John 1:8 says that after salvation when the blood of Jesus cleanseth us from all sin, christians can sin again because if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth (Jesus) is not in us. And then 1 John 1:10 says that we can sin again after salvation. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him (Jesus) a liar, and His word is not in us.
After salvation, a person's soul and spirit are redeemed and no longer sin. 1 John 5:18 says We know that whatsoever is born of God sinneth not (the soul and spirit no longer sin); but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. But after salvation, a person's body (flesh) can keep sinning (lost as a golf ball in high weeds) and will not be redeemed until the rapture when Jesus appears in the air. Romans 8:23 says that christians groan within themselves, waiting (until the rapture) for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of their bodies. After the rapture christians will receive glorified bodies that will no longer sin.
Philippians 3:20 says For our conversation (citizenship) is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body (during the rapture when the Lord Jesus appears to His saved saints in the air), that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.
The apostle Paul explained that the flesh that can sin wars against the soul and spirit of christians. Even Paul the greatest christian that lived admitted that his body could sin. Paul said at Romans 7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. Paul went on to say at Romans 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am. Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
Since christians can sin again after salvation, christians should stay clean and daily try to stop sinning to avoid trouble, problems, and death. Ephesians 4:27 says Neither give place to the devil. Romans 6:1 says What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? After salvation by faith in Jesus, a christian can not lose his or her salvation but can commit a sin unto death.
The sin unto death that saved christians can commit is listed at 1 Corinthians 5:5 where a saved christian sinned and died because he had sex with his father's wife. This christian was delivered unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Notice that this christian was saved with eternal life, but experienced a premature death because of his sin.
Pictured above Jesus explained to Peter that his soul and spirit was cleansed by the blood of Jesus of all his sins, but he had to wash his feet to stop his flesh from sinning after salvation while walking through this world. John 13:6 says Then cometh He (Jesus) to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto Him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. Peter saith unto Him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Tremble at these words and notice that the Lord Jesus said if anyone is not washed by faith in Jesus alone without good works and religion they can not be saved. Only the Lord Jesus can save anyone.
Now notice Peter's radical change of mind at John 13:9 where Simon Peter saith unto Him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Now Peter wants his feet along with his hands and head washed by Jesus. Notice Jesus' response at John 13:10: He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. In other words Jesus told Peter that he was cleansed of all his sins, but after salvation, Peter could sin again in his flesh and needed to stay clean and wash his feet daily to avoid trouble from the devil.
Therefore like Peter, when christians walk through this world, they need to daily wash their feet and deny sin by staying clean. When anyone practices or commits sins, even christians, they block God from blessing them. This is why we need to stay clean and avoid sinning daily. Psalm 66:18 says If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me. God will not hear the prayers of people, even saved people, that practice sin and fail to stay clean by confessing their sins daily. And notice that Romans 8:13 says For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
FOUR WAYS TO STAY CLEAN AFTER SALVATION
1) CONFESS YOUR SINS DAILY TO STAY CLEAN
The first way to stay clean after salvation is to confess your sins daily. 1 John 1:9 says If we confess our sins, He (Jesus) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. One of the daily benefits anyone receives when they confess their sins is listed at Psalm 103:2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases. And rejoice because Psalm 68:19 says Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits (those listed in Psalm 103), even the God of our salvation. Selah.
Everyday say Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ and let the devil know I am covered by the blood of Jesus that cleanseth me from all sin, overcomes and defeats you devil, and evil must pass over me. You will feel the blood of Jesus take away all guilt from your sins and be able to boldly enter the throne of God by faith in heaven to make requests for your prayers.
2) READ AND MEMORIZE THE WORD OF GOD DAILY TO STAY CLEAN
The next way to stay clean after salvation is to daily read and memorize the Word of God. The following scriptures tell us that the Word of God will wash us and keep us clean. Jesus said at John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the Word which I have spoken unto you. And Ephesians 5:26 says That He (Jesus) might sanctify and cleanse it (the church) with the washing of water by the Word.
Now why should anyone read and memorize the bible and stay clean? People should deny sin and stay clean because it just feels good to be clean. It feels better to be clean than be filthy and living in sin. When we are clean with the Lord Jesus it makes us happy with peace and strength. Also it's blessed to listen to the Word of God. Just listen to some blessed preaching on the internet or at your church and you will experience peace, joy, and happiness. Romans 10:17 says So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Most people bathe or shower every day early in the morning to avoid stinking and being offensive to everyone around them. If anyone bathed or showered only once a week or once a month, they'd stink and offend many people around them. Also they'd feel dirty, lousy, and filthy, and be a bad witness to everyone.
Not only do we need to daily cleanse our outward bodies, but we also need to cleanse our inward bodies by daily reading and memorizing the bible with the water of the Word. When anyone just listens to preaching (even if you can't remember the scriptures), the water of the Word will flow over you and make you feel good with great joy and peace.
Most people bathe or shower every day. But most people don't read the bible every day to stay clean and stop sinning. If anyone tells you I haven't read or even thought about the bible for years, they are a bad witness and are offensive like a person that has not bathed for years. But when anyone daily reads and memorizes the bible, they are a joy to be around and their peace can be felt by everyone around them.
It's good to read and memorize the bible daily because it helps us stay clean by revealing sins that need to be washed and stopped. The bible teaches us how to live pure, holy, and sanctified lives for Jesus. Sometimes the only way we can be aware of our sins is to have the Word of God correct and reveal sin to our flesh. Hebrews 4:12 says For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow (the Word of God separates by spiritual circumcision your soul and spirit from your flesh-joints and marrow, to recognize sins that must be stopped), and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Colossians 2:11 explains the spiritual circumcision made by the Word of God that is sharper than any twoedged sword saying In whom also ye are circumcised (By the Word Jesus) with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.
3) THE FEAR OF GOD HELPS US TO STAY CLEAN
When anyone daily reads or memorizes the Word of God, they will learn about the fear of God. It's good to fear God. The fear of the Lord has a cleansing effect and will stop people from sinning so they can stay clean. Psalm 19:9 tell us that the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever. And Proverbs 3:7 tell us that when anyone fears the Lord they will depart from evil.
And the fear of the Lord is not a bad thing. Proverbs 10:27 says The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. It's good to stay clean, fear God, and live holy every day. The bible promises power and strength to anyone that daily stays clean and lives holy. Like Jesus, Romans 1:4 promises anyone power if they have a spirit of holiness. The scripture says that Jesus was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.
Be like King David and determine to stay clean by saying Psalm 51:10. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free Spirit. Jesus will reward us at the bema judgment seat for staying clean with good works when we meet Him after we are caught up in the clouds during the rapture. It's a blessing to stay clean with good works to widows, orphans, and needy poor people because the Lord Jesus will reward us with eternal blessings in earth and in heaven.
Remember the promise of 2 John 8 that says Look to yourselves (stay clean with good works), that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. And remember the warning of 2 Corinthians 13:5. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
4) THE LOVE OF GOD HELPS US TO STAY CLEAN
Finally the love of God will help us stay clean and keep us away from the filthiness of this world. Be like the woman who loved Jesus much by washing His feet with her tears and hair. This woman's great love for Jesus cleansed her of many filthy sins. Jesus spoke about this woman at Luke 7:47 saying Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
No sin should keep you from coming to Jesus today. According to Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will (this is for everyone no matter how much sin they've done), let him take the water of life freely.
You see the love of God occurred when our Lord Jesus died on the cross of Calvary. John 15:13 proves this by saying Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. If you ever get a bad thought, just look with your heart at Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary and that bad thought will disappear immediately and you will stay clean. If you look with your heart at Jesus Christ crucified on the cross of Calvary, it is impossible to think a bad thought. This revelation is stated at 2 Corinthians 10:5 that says Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
