Give And Live
Hoard And Die
Currently in America we are seeing many hoarders clearing the shelves in grocery stores of hand sanitizers, bread, and water. These hoarders are storing up years worth of food and money selfishly in their basements. To all these hoarders I give the following warning from Luke 12:15 that says Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
Take time to read what happened to a hoarder who Jesus called a fool that died. Luke 12:16 tells us that the ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? This hoarding fool who worked for years to store his food died in one night and lost everything. This shows us that it is better to give than to hoard. Give and live; hoard and die.
Instead of being a hoarder obey Luke 6:38 and be blessed. Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. And note the blessed promise of Ecclesiastes 11:1 that says Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Give and live instead of hoarding and dying.
Nabal Hoarded And Died
Abigail Gave Food To David And Lived
A fool named Nabal was married to a blessed woman named Abigail. Nabal was very rich and refused to give food to David and his soldiers. Nabal eventually got drunk at a feast and died because he was a hoarder. But his wife Abigail was a blessed woman who gave her food to David to avoid death from David and his soldiers. Abigail gave her food to David and his soldiers and lived. Abigail offered David and his army 200 loaves of bread (I wish someone like Abigail could visit some Walmarts in America and give 200 loaves of bread to poor people, teaching people how to give and live), five sheep ready dressed, five measures of parched corn, 100 clusters of raisins, and 200 cakes of figs. Because of Abigail's kindness, Abigail was blessed with the honor of becoming King David's wife.
I encourage you to be like Abigail to overcome depression and poverty by giving and living. Remember the wise advice from Matthew 16:25 that says For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake (Jesus' sake) shall find it. Mark 8:36 says For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 1 Timothy 6:7 says For we brought nothing into the world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. Remember the blessing you will receive if you obey Proverbs 19:17. He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord (note that you don't have to give money to the poor, just consider (pity) the poor and be kind and note the payoff); and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Remember the parable where a man took his one talent and became a hoarder by hiding the talent in the ground. This man was a fearful hoarder like many people today in America hoarding hand sanitizers, bread, and water. Matthew 25:25 tells us that this hoarder said he was afraid, living in fear, instead of rejoicing, living in faith, and he went and hid his one talent in the earth. Jesus punished this man and took away his talent and gave it to the person that gave his talents to help the poor. Note the lesson that Jesus teaches us at Matthew 25:29: For unto every one that hath (those that are not selfish and give food and money to the poor) shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not (the hoarders that lose everything for being selfish and stingy) shall be taken away even that which he hath.
The Widow Of Zarephath Gave Food To Elijah And Lived
My favorite person that gave food to the poor and lived in the bible is the widow of Zarephath. The prophet Elijah was hungry and asked the widow of Zarephath for her last morsel of bread and a little water in a vessel. This blessed widow woman gave her last piece of bread and her last drop of water to the man of God.
Read how God honored this widow woman for giving her last meal to Elijah. 1 Kings 17:14 tells us that her barrel of meal (bread supply) did not waste during the famine and her cruse of oil (water supply) never failed until the day that the Lord sent rain upon the earth. In other words because this widow woman gave her food to Elijah, God created food out of nowhere for her and always provided for her needs.
Learn a lesson from this widow woman. Give your food and money to poor needy people to overcome depression and poverty. Like the widow woman from Zarephath, God will create food out of nowhere for you and help you overcome the troubles of this world. Brother Bob for years has blessed untold numbers of poor people with free meals everywhere at Cracker Barrels, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Goodwin's family restaurant. The other day when the shelves in the grocery store had no peanut butter, Jesus showed Brother Bob one can of peanut butter that was hidden between two shelves and blessed him. I left Walmart that day happy and shouting the victory with my can of Jif peanut butter.
I pray in Jesus name, that this little bible study will change hoarders into givers. Jesus told us at Matthew 25:40 Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Remember whatever you give to a poor needy person, you give to the Lord Jesus. Therefore don't give poor people leftovers. Give them the best food and clothes that you own.
Witness Jesus everywhere. Get saved, repent, decide to stop sinning, confess that Jesus is God, and believe the gospel that Jesus died on the cross for you, was buried, and rose again. Tell people everywhere that the Lord Jesus said at John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
I pray in Jesus name that this bible study blesses multitudes everywhere with great joy, peace, and strength.
