Repentance The Cure For Sin

Today let's talk about repentance the cure for sin. First, repentance (making a decision to turn from your sin and turn to Jesus) is a requirement to be saved. 2 Corinthians 7:10 says For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of; but the sorrow of the world worketh death. And Jesus commanded us all to repent. Acts 17:30 says And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent. Get saved today and repent (decide to stop sinning) and confess that Jesus is God, believing the gospel that Jesus died for you on the cross, was buried, and rose again.

And repentance is married to faith. You need both repentance and faith to be saved. Acts 20:20 tells us And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you: but have shewed you and have taught you publickly, and from house to house, Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance turns you from sin and faith turns you to Jesus. Repentance brings you out of sin and faith brings you in to Jesus. Repentance causes you to stop sinning and faith causes you to start living for Jesus. Repentance causes you to quit sinning and faith causes you to begin living for Jesus.

And note that repentance is not works but a gift from God that is required to be saved. This is proven by Acts 11:18 that says When they heard these things, they held their peace and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Yes good works of blessing widows and the fatherless and being a decent moral person does not save you. Ephesians 2:8 says For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any many should boast. But, we do good works to let Jesus shine to the lost world and get a reward at the bema judgment seat. Good works are the evidence to the world that Jesus has saved a lost sinner. Faith without works is dead. This is why Ephesians 2:10 goes on to say For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

OK pictured above we see that Proverbs 28:13 speaks about repentance saying He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Notice that this scripture says if anyone covers their sins and refuses to repent and stop sinning, they shall not prosper. But if anyone confesseth and forsaketh his sins, they shall have mercy. A lot of people confess and just say they will stop sinning. This is not enough. One must also forsake and repent (turn from their sin and decide to stop sinning) to have mercy.

We also see that 2 Chronicles 7:14 also tells us to repent and stop sinning to be blessed saying If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways (in other words repent); then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Pictured above we see two examples about people who covered their sins (failed to repent by confessing and forsaking sin) and did not prosper. First we see Achan who covered his sin by burying 200 shekels of silver, a wedge of gold worth 50 shekels, and a goodly Babylonish garment in the earth in the midst of his tent. Achan and his entire family died when Joshua discovered that they covered their sin and hid treasures in their tent. Also, pictured above we see a fig leaf that Adam and Eve used to cover their sin. Adam and Eve did not prosper because they covered their sin and created the curse of sin for all people. This is why Jesus died on the cross to remove sin's curse and wash away our sins in the blood of Jesus.

Therefore we see that all people have a choice to make. Either foolishly cover and hide your sins, failing to repent, where they do not prosper and die. Or wisely confess and forsake (repent) (decide to turn from sin and stop sinning) and have mercy.

You see sin blocks blessings. Psalm 66:18 warns us If I regard iniquity (sin) in my heart, the Lord will not hear me. Brother Bob tells people everywhere that when you are tempted to sin, say the following two scriptures to avoid sinning and dying. Say Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Also say For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die; but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Choose life Jesus instead of sin and death. I'd rather suffer with Jesus and live than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season and die in misery. Romans 8:18 tells us For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 2 Timothy 1:12 tells us For the which cause I also suffer these things, nevertheless, I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.

5 OF THE 7 REVELATION CHURCHES WERE TOLD TO REPENT BY JESUS

Repentance is important to Jesus who told 5 of the 7 Revelation churches to repent. You can't get saved until you repent and first make a decision to stop a lifestyle of fornication, drinking, doing drugs, cussing, and stealing. Then turn to the Lord Jesus where the blood of Jesus will wash away all your sins and make you white as snow and give you the everlasting peace that passeth all understanding.

Read how Jesus stressed repentance to the following five Revelation churches to receive blessings and avoid curses. To Ephesus, Jesus said at Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen and repent and do the first works, or else I will come unto thee quickly and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. To Pergamos, Jesus said at Revelation 2:16 Repent, or else I will come unto thee quickly and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

To Thyatira, Jesus said at Revelation 2:22 Behold I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. To Sardis, Jesus said at Revelation 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast and repent. To Laodicea, Jesus said at Revelation 3:19 As many as I love I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore and repent.

Pictured above we see three people in the bible that learned to repent and got blessed. These saints learned to deny themselves and admit that they were sinners willing to repent so Jesus could shine. Like John the Baptist we all must say He (Jesus) must increase, but I must decrease. First Paul repented and said at 1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying and worth of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. To be blessed say along with Paul at Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am who shall deliver me from the body of this death. I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Next we see that Isaiah admitted he was a sinner and repented saying at Isaiah 6:5 Woe is me, for I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Job also admitted he was a sinner and repented saying at Job 12:6 Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes. And finally Simon Peter repented at Luke 5:8 telling Jesus Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

A LIST OF EXCUSES PEOPLE MAKE FOR SINNING
AVOID MAKING THESE EXCUSES

I know when to quit
I'm not as bad as some people
At least I'm no hypocrite
It all depends on how you look at it
My conscience doesn't convict me
You gotta make a livin'
We all fall short
No one is perfect
I always have done it
A little bit doesn't hurt
God knows my heart
I'm not hurting anyone
Leave them alone; they're not hurtin' anyone
Everyone else does it

You might say Brother Bob why are you telling people to repent and stop sinning? I'm telling people to stop sinning because this is what the bible tells me to preach. 1 John 2:1 says My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not (the bible tells you don't sin). (Now note the next words) And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Hallelujah, if we sin, we can look to our advocate lawyer Jesus and say I am crucified with Jesus Christ and the blood of Jesus will cleanse us from all our sins and overcome the devil.

And pictured above Isaiah 58:1 tells me Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins. Also, 2 Timothy 4:2 says Preach the Word, be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.  And also Hebrews 12:1 tells us to repent saying Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

Pictured above we see that just a little tiny sin can cause trouble and problems. Ephesians 4:27 says Neither give place to the devil. Pictured above we see a wise saying from King Solomon at Ecclesiastes 10:1 that says Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour; so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour. Truly Song of Solomon 2:5 gives us wise advice: Take us the foxes (sins), (even) the little foxes (sins) that spoil the vines; for our vines have tender grapes.

Many bible verses tell us to repent daily and stop sinning. Take time and say Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice. And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

And 2 Corinthians 7:1 says Having therefore these promises dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all fithiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. James 1:21 says Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted Word, which is able to save your souls.

And notice 1 Corinthians 15:33 pictured above that says Be not deceived; evil communications corrupt good manners. In other words avoid sinful communications on social media like facebook, twitter, and instagram. Don't get overcharged with the cares of this life and forget to witness Jesus to lost sinners all over this earth. Unfortunately, most people are too busy texting and looking at facebook on their cellphones and forget about witnessing Jesus to people around them on this earth. Many people at restaurants look more at their cellphones than their friends at the dinner table.

If you take too much time texting on cellphones while watching social media all day like facebook, heed to the warning of Luke 21:34 that says And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged (too much) with surfeiting and drunkenness, and cares of this life (too much texting and facebook on cellphones) and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore and pray always that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Speak out against sin and teach our young people to avoid sin that leads to death and misery. It's wrong for the country of Canada to put a preacher Bill Whatcott in jail with no food for 24 hours for preaching that homosexuality and lesbianism is a sin. The bible says that if a man lies with another man he shall surely be put to death. Romans 1 says that homosexuals and lesbians and members of the LGBTQ (lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning) group will be given over to a reprobate mind. And the book of Jude 7 warns that people who do the sins of the LGBTQ will suffer the vengeance of eternal fire and burn in hell forevermore unless they repent of their sins and get saved with Jesus. This is not hate speech; I write this because I want to see people in the LGBTQ get saved which can occur according 1 Corinthains 6:9-11. And such were some of you, but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Speak out against people who take drugs and alcohol. Tell them that according to Galatians 5:20 drugs and alcohol are defined as witchcraft. When anyone takes drugs and alcohol they allow the devil to control them with witchcraft. Instead of dying in misery by being controlled by the devil with drugs and alcohol, get saved with peace and let Jesus be Lord of your life. Jesus will take away all your problems when you say daily I am crucified with Jesus Christ. The only reason people take drugs and alcohol to escape their troubles is because they do not know the Lord Jesus.

Speak out against the terrible law being passed in the State of California that wants to ban the sale of all bibles. I have news for these politicians in California. Psalm 119:89 says For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. The bible is the only book that has been here since the beginning of time and it will be around billions of years from now and forevermore. I'm reminded of the wicked king in Jeremiah's day (Jehoiakim) that took a penknife and tried to cut up God's word and burn in it a hearth (Jeremiah 36:28). When Jeremiah learned about this, Jeremiah rewrote the exact words and had Baruch proclaim it to lost sinners. Thank you Lord Jesus for Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words, as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Speak out against people that weekly buy lottery tickets and gamble at the casino. This involves the sin of the love of money that is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows (1 Timothy 6:10). If you need money to pay bills, buy food, and pay your rent, trust the Lord Jesus for all your needs. Jesus said at Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things (food, clothes, shelter, and any need to survive) shall be added unto you. Remember Jesus can make money appear out of nowhere. When Jesus and Peter had to pay taxes, Jesus made the money appear out of nowhere in a fishes mouth. If you want great gain, remember 1 Timothy 6:6 says But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Hopefully, the new Supreme Court justice appointed by President Trump will overturn the Roe v. Wade decision and stop abortions. Since Roe v. Wade, 70 million innocent little babies have been murdered. What a blessing to know that the lady that started Roe v. Wade, Norma McCorvey got saved and tried to overturn Roe v. Wade before she died. I know Norma is smiling in heaven knowing that President Trump is appointing a new Supreme Court justice that will overturn Roe v. Wade and stop abortions and the murdering of innocent children.

TAKE A STAND FOR JESUS AND DON'T COMPROMISE

Don't compromise with contemporaries
And let the vices of contemporaries
dull the voice of your conscience

Sin is bad but even worse are politicians that compromise with sin and fail to speak out against sin to get the people's vote. These politicians know that sodomy, transgenderism, lottery, and marijuana are sinful but allow laws promoting these sins to get elected and live in luxury.  Jesus said at Luke 11:23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. And a compromising lukewarm politician that fails to speak against sin will be rejected by the Lord Jesus. How do you know when a politician is lying? Every time he opens his mouth. How do you know when a politician is telling the truth? When he says another politician is a liar.

I pray in Jesus name that this bible study blesses people all over this earth with great joy, peace, and strength.
