Historical Blessings

Edward Kimball
An Unknown Witness That Saved Multitudes For Jesus

In 1856 an unknown humble Sunday school teacher named Edward Kimball was determined to win a sinner named DL Moody to Jesus. A shoe store employer told DL Moody that he had to go to Sunday school before he could work at his store. DL Moody agreed to attend church and fell asleep every Sunday while Edward Kimball preached a blessed sermon. But Edward Kimball was determined to witness and win DL Moody to Jesus.

Edward Kimball would visit DL Moody many times at a shoe store where the teenage Moody worked. One day when Mr. Kimball entered the shoe store, he put his hand on DL Moody's shoulder while placing his foot upon a shoebox and humbly asked him to get saved, repent, decide to stop sinning, confess that Jesus is God, and believe the gospel that Jesus died for him on the cross, was buried, and rose again. After nothing changed for Mr. Moody, Mr. Kimball left the shoe store thinking that nothing would happen. However on that day DL Moody got saved and became a new person who eventually became one of the greatest evangelists during the 1800s.

Like Edward Kimball, keep witnessing Jesus to people everywhere on this earth. Paul said at 1 Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Our labor for Jesus is not in vain. The one person that gets saved by our witness could save millions for Jesus. Because Edward Kimball kept witnessing Jesus to DL Moody, Mr. Moody got saved and won millions to our Lord Jesus. In other words, if it wasn't for Edward Kimball (who isn't even listed in Wikipedia) millions of lost souls would now be in hell. But instead millions of sinners got saved and are in heaven right now. All these millions of people are thankful that Edward Kimball offered salvation to DL Moody.

But the story doesn't end about the blessed results from Edward Kimball's witness. On June 17, 1873, DL Moody arrived in Liverpool England for a series of crusades. The meetings went poorly at first but then blessings began flowing. Moody visited a Baptist chapel pastored by a scholarly man named FB Meyer who at first disdained the American's unfettered preaching. But Meyer was soon transfixed and transformed by Moody's message.

At Moody's invitation, Meyer toured America. At Northfield Bible Conference, Meyer challenged the crowds saying "If you are not willing to give up everything for Christ, are you willing to be made willing." That remark changed the life of a struggling young minister named J. Wilbur Chapman. Chapman proceeded to become a powerful traveling evangelist in the early 1900s and he recruited a converted baseball player named Billy Sunday. Under Chapman's eye, Sunday became one of the most spectacular evangelists in American history.

Billy Sunday's campaign in Charlotte, North Carolina produced a group of converts who continued praying for another such visitation of the Spirit. In 1934 evangelist Mordecai Ham was invited to conduct a citywide crusade. On October 8, 1934 Ham discouraged wrote a prayer to God on the stationary of his Charlotte hotel: Lord give us a pentecost here...Pour out thy Spirit tomorrow. His prayer was answered beyond his dreams when a Central High School student named Billy Graham gave his heart to Jesus. And Billy Graham became one of the greatest preachers that ever lived on this earth and won millions to our Lord Jesus.

Now remember millions of souls were saved by the preaching of  DL Moody,  FB Meyer, J. Wilbur Chapman, Billy Sunday, Mordecai Ham, and Billy Graham, because of an unknown humble Sunday school teacher named Ed Kimball who was determined to witness Jesus everywhere to everyone. Ed Kimball didn't even know about the millions of souls that his preaching saved. But, Jesus will reward Mr. Kimball greatly in heaven for his faithfulness in telling everyone about our Lord Jesus.

Like Ed Kimball, Brother Bob might not know how many lives were changed and saved by reading preachbrotherbob (currently seen by half of a million people all over this earth). But it's not about lifting up Ed Kimball or Brother Bob; All the glory belongs to our Lord Jesus. Ed Kimball and Brother Bob will soon rejoice forevermore when we see all the lost souls that escaped hell and received eternal peace in heaven with Jesus because of our constant witnessing about Jesus to lost sinners everywhere on this earth.

Like Ed Kimball, never underestimate the influence you can have on the world by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ with just one life. I pray in Jesus name that this little story about Ed Kimball will encourage many people to continue to pray and look for opportunities to preach the gospel and the message of salvation found in our Lord Jesus everywhere around this earth. The one person you reach for Jesus could save untold millions for the Lord Jesus.

David Brainerd
Missionary To The American Indians

David Brainerd, who only lived 29 years on this earth, was one of the greatest soul winners for Jesus that ever lived. David Brainerd dedicated his life to witnessing to lost American Indians from 1737-1747. This would be like going today to a primitive Indian tribe in the remote Amazon jungle of Brazil South America to tell all the Indians about the Lord Jesus. David Brainerd couldn't speak the language of the American Indians but was determined to offer salvation by Jesus to them all.

For ten years in the early 1700s,  David Brainerd lived in primitive huts on a straw cot weeping and praying every day that the lost Indians would get saved. He traveled on a horse through the states of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, constantly preaching to the Indians through a drunken Indian interpreter daily. At first, not one Indian got saved. But after around 10 years of preaching Jesus to the Indians, thousands of Indians got saved. Mr. Brainerd opened up churches and schools to train the Indians about Jesus and lives of many American Indians were changed while they got gloriously saved.

Brother Bob has the utmost respect for any missionary like David Brainerd who dedicate their lives to living in remote desolate places to reach primitive people and save their souls. We should all support missionaries who are willing to live in jungles and remote places on this earth to preach the gospel of our Lord Jesus to lost sinners who never heard about Jesus. These people are willing to sacrifice and learn primitive languages and live outdoors in huts to win souls to our Lord Jesus.

Friends like David Brainerd start weeping and being burdened to save lost sinners all around us. Remember the promise of Psalm 126:5-6 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth (burdened and praying daily for lost souls to be saved) bearing precious seed (constantly preaching the Word of God and offering salvation from Jesus) shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him (the souls that got saved by our witnessing). In other words, saints will rejoice when they see the untold millions of souls that were saved by our witnessing for Jesus in heaven. 1 Thessalonians 2:19 speaks about this: For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For ye (the saints saved through our witnessing) are our glory and joy.

The Little Lantern And The Great Sun

Don't despise small things
Remember a little lantern can do what a great sun can never do
It can shine in the night

Some Blessed Quotes

Without God, we should fear to move
But when He bids us go, it is dangerous to tarry

I thank God for protecting me from what I thought I wanted
and blessing me with what I didn't know I needed

A Blessed Poem Proving That God's Word And Truth Will Remain Forever

They burned Truth in the marketplace
And thought their work complete
But next day with a smiling face
They met it on the street

They threw it in a dungeon damp
And thought it was no more
But lo it walked with lighted lamp
Among them as before

They scorned and ostracized it
And ordained it to depart
But still it dwelt in all the land
And challenged every heart

I pray in Jesus name that this little bible study blesses multitudes all over this earth with great joy and peace.
